Texas-based Fenner Investments has filed a lawsuit against Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. Last year, the company already sued Juniper Networks, Nokia, Cisco, Alcatel and Ericsson. According to Fenner Investments, three gaming companies violated the patent of the “interface port of the low-voltage joystick”, the application for which was filed in July 1998, and which entered into force in October 2001.
The patent describes the joystick port interface - “the integrated circuit receives a signal from an analog joystick describing its current position and outputs it as a digital signal to the processor responsible for processing the position”. Simply put, this patent describes the work of all gamepads with analog sticks.
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have not yet commented on the situation. Probably, they will have to “pay off”.
