Over the ten years of the EVE Online multiplayer game, it has developed economics, politics and a trading system. Like any other multiplayer game, there are wars in it. Here, thousands of alliances do not miss the opportunity to bite off another piece of space from each other. And just one of the largest and most expensive (in real money) intergalactic battles in the entire history of the game unfolded several days ago. On the vast expanses of space, more than 2,200 people belonging to the largest alliances of this gaming universe entered the battle. The result - the war caused damage of more than 200 thousand dollars in real terms.
Most of the costs accounted for more than 70 destroyed "Titans". These are the coolest and largest spacecraft in EVE, which take real-time weeks and hundreds of billions of ISK (the local currency of EVE) to build. The EVE payment gaming model makes players buy a Pilot's License Extension or PLEX monthly subscription, as well as investing very real money in virtual ISKs. The result is that the current conversion rate of real currency into virtual affects the final cost of the ships in the game. So, one of the most high-tech "Titans" in the game, destroyed the other day, cost 222 billion ISK - or about 5,500 real dollars.
Conflict history
No matter how trite it sounds, it all started with an unpaid invoice. EVE historians will say that the conflict began at the end of October last year, when major alliances began to expand their trade routes, capturing smaller systems. However, when Nulli Secunda “forgot” to pay the bills for renting a space station in one of the key areas of space (the B-R5RB system), the opposition forces decided to grab this station for themselves.
Fall 75 "Titans"
As a result, the Nulli Secunda alliance and the Pandemic Legion friendly alliance appeared on one side of the barricades, and on the other, CFC and RUS alliances. None of the parties wanted to back down, and one of the largest space battles in the history of the EVE Online universe began. Both sides brought with them their coolest fleets, in which the Titans were the ultimate force. The battle that had begun, even for a while, stopped, because the powerful lasers of the Titans did not allow access to the main enemy forces. The situation radically changed when the American members of the CFC alliance went online, clearing one sector of this cosmos and sending long-awaited reinforcements here. Tactics and accurate execution of orders of commanders allowed the enemy “Titans” to be separated from the main enemy forces.
One of the developers of CCP, the creator of the multiplayer online game EVE, says that "the exact and official figures of the number of players and ships participating in the battle have not been fully calculated," but this battle can compete on a scale with the war unfolded in July 2013 in the 6VDT-H system, where as many as 4070 players took part. But even regardless of the final number of players, the battle that took place the other day is already considered the most "bloody" in the history of this game. According to the portal The Mittani, as a result of the July conflict, 12 "Titans" were destroyed with a total cost of about one trillion ISK. However, in this battle into space debris, while debris costing about $ 3,000, 75 "Titans" were destroyed!
CCP spokesman Ned Cocker told Eurogamer that “in terms of the cost of destruction, no multiplayer game in the world can compete with the battle in EVE that started at the end of January” .
The incident has already affected the entire economic and political system of the EVE universe: in fact, both sides have completely lost their fleet and started the rearmament race, the cost of the price for the titanium resource began to grow.
“This kind of conflict is what science fiction films warned us about,” Coker says.
Well at least these conflicts unfold so far exclusively in the virtual universes.
