Despite the fact that the gaming division of Microsoft is doing better and better, key employees continue to leave the company. Last year, Don Matrik, who was at the helm of the Xbox One division, left Microsoft, and now he has come to say goodbye to Boyd Multerer, who has created such a successful and profitable Xbox Live gaming service with his own hands.
Boyd Multerer worked for the company for a total of 20 years (from 1994 to 2014). His services to the gaming unit of the Redmond giant are hard to overestimate. Initially, he was hired to develop the online components of the original Xbox console, which ultimately led to the incredibly successful Xbox Live network service, which is now used by tens of millions of people around the world.
It was he who developed the tools for creating XNA games, thanks to which novice programmers could create and publish games for Microsoft devices with their own hands. The idea of selling digital copies of console games in a dedicated online store also belongs to Boyd Multerer.
The last years of his work in the company, Boyd was engaged in the development of the technical design of the Xbox One console, as well as cloud services for it, including the remote rendering of graphics and physical processes on powerful servers.
“Goodbye Microsoft! That was great. The Xbox is a great console! But it's time I got to do something new, ”Boyd wrote in his Twitter.
Recall that, in addition to Boyd Malterer and Don Matrick, over the past year, Mark Witten, Head of Product, left, Xbox Entertainment Studios, now closed, Nancy Telle and Jordan Levin, and Xbox One TV’s Senior Development Manager, Ben Smith, left Xbox.
