The publisher Take Two reported on its income for the third quarter of the current fiscal year (October, November and December 2013, since the current fiscal year ends in March 2014) and its total profit was 1.86 billion dollars. In the 2012 fiscal year for the same period, the publishing house managed to earn only $ 415 million, which means that over the year the profit has increased almost four times!
Of course, the lion’s share of this income was derived from GTA V sales. Nevertheless, other publisher games, such as Borderlands 2, developed by Gearbox Software, sold 8.5 million copies, and the NBA 2K14 sports simulator sold very well. bought 5 million times, which automatically makes it the most successful basketball game of the day.
But back to GTA V. This game, despite the fact that it was released only for the two platforms Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, literally cut its way into the hall of fame to the best-selling video games of all time and peoples. GTA V currently occupies the honorable sixth place in the top ten best-selling games, and in front of it are the other bigwigs of the gaming business. The fifth place is taken by the well-known to us Tetris, which at one time sold 35 million copies for handheld consoles Nintendo Game Boy and Game Boy Color. Mario Kart for the Nintendo Wii, with a circulation of 35.3 million copies, is in fourth place. The third place recently takes Minecraft with sales of 36 million copies. The second place is occupied by the cult platformer Super Mario Bros for the 8-bit Famicom console (known in Russia as Dendy), which was bought 40.2 million times. And in the first place is the unsurpassed Wii Sports game, which came bundled with the Nintendo Wii prefix and due to this, it sold out in a huge circulation of 82 million copies.
As you can see, apart from GTA V and Minecraft, the Japanese company Nintendo is the absolute leader in terms of giant video game sales. But given that Nintendo’s business has been going badly over the past year, the situation may change a lot in the future. And we can only congratulate the publisher Take Two with incredible financial results and hope that in the near future GTA V will appear in versions for PC and consoles of the new generation PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
