The Oculus Rift project is watched by millions of people from all over the world, because, in fact, it is the only virtual reality helmet that is available to almost everyone thanks to its budget price, and numerous video games are being developed specifically for it. The creators of Oculus Rift at the CES-2014 exhibition showed the journalists the second version of the helmet, which is code-named Crystal Cove.
The first model Oculus Rift had very mediocre characteristics. The main drawback of the first devkit was a screen with a resolution of only 720p, which in practice gave the user a pixel-sized pixel. Many testers of the first model of the helmet experienced nausea, eye strain, and headache. It is on these points that the developers of the Oculus VR have been working very carefully over the past few months.
The new Oculus Rift now produces a picture in 1080p resolution. The helmet matrix was changed from LCD to OLED, which significantly reduced the delay in displaying the image on the screen. The helmet was also equipped with numerous infrared LED-LEDs and an additional camera, which is installed in front of the user and very accurately tracks the position of his head in space (such technologies are used when shooting movies and creating video games, only labels are applied directly to the faces of the actors). If earlier a player could only turn his head left, right, up and down, then now he can bring his face closer to some object inside the game, or he can jerk away from him, and the camera will absolutely exactly transfer his movements to virtual reality. In other words, now users will get a lot of new features in games, for example, it will be possible to peek around the corner, which would be impossible in the previous Oculus Rift model.
As a result of numerous tests and improvements, the updated version of the Oculus Rift has reduced the occurrence of unpleasant symptoms like dizziness or nausea to a minimum, but work in this direction is still ongoing. We remind you that Oculus Rift should go on sale within this year, and the legendary Doom father John Carmack joined the development team not so long ago, who promised to start developing new games for this virtual reality helmet.
