Many of you must remember the wonderful plasticine quest The Neverhood, which was incredibly popular in 1996. Well, many years later, the creators of this game came together again to create a completely new project - Armikrog.
The Neverhood game was known in our country thanks to two unofficial pirated translations from the studios Uncle Rice and PC Boheme (Fargus). Each of these translations introduced something of their own to the game, but this made it not less interesting to play it. The plot of the game told about the adventures of a plasticine man, whose name was Clayman, in the fantasy world “Non-historical”.
The Armikrog project was presented to the public in 2013 on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform. Developers from the studio Pencil Test Studios asked for support from fans of their previous games and quickly raised the required $ 900,000. The money went to create stunning clay decorations, character animation, creating special effects, high-quality voice acting and writing a soundtrack.
If you are familiar with the process of creating clay animation, then you can imagine how painstaking the process is, requiring huge time and physical effort from animators. Each character in the game is a plasticine model with a wire frame. In order to animate it, artists have to shoot each frame of its limbs in space frame by frame. And for the character to speak, dozens of different forms of his mouth are used, which follow each other to synchronize the movement of the lips with the spoken dialogue.
The design of the game was entirely invented by the artist Doug Tenneipple, who had previously created such characters as Clayman from The Neverhood and Worm Jim from Earthworm Jim. Its unique design cannot be confused with anything else. I think that you yourself understand this perfectly well.
The music for the new game was written by the same composer who created OST for The Neverhood - Terry Scott Taylor. You can be absolutely sure that we are waiting for funny and atmospheric acoustic compositions in the style of blues, country and rock and roll.
Armikrog's story tells the story of two characters: the cosmic wanderer Tomminavt and his talking dog Bik-Bika, who crash on an unknown planet. The heroes have to solve a lot of puzzles in order to leave the unfriendly world and remain unharmed. Initially, Doug Tenneipple wanted to create the second part of The Neverhood, but since the rights to this franchise still belong to the publishing house EA, he had to write a completely new script with new characters.
The game should go on sale in early 2015 for PC platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac OS), Wii U and PlayStation 4. The good news is that the developers promise to officially translate the game into Russian. Agree, it's a trifle, but nice.
