How inattention investors almost buried the company Nintendo

Pokemon-GO

After the release of the mobile game Pokémon Go, Nintendo's share price soared with the speed of the rocket. The game quickly gained popularity and grew into a true world cultural phenomenon. However, as soon as the company's investors found out that Nintendo actually has little in common with this game (it did not develop it), the shares just as quickly crept down. The company made an official statement on Friday after the close of the auction, clarifying that the final financial results will be much lower than expected, as Nintendo owns only 32 percent of The Pokémon Company (the Pokémon franchise company).

The very same game Pokémon Go is the result of the collaboration of The Pokémon Company and the American developer Niantic Labs, who previously worked for Google and developed the game Ingress with a similar mechanics of augmented reality. This revelation led to the fact that on Monday this Nintendo shares fell 17 percent (which is about 6.4 billion dollars in money). As pointed out by the information and analytical agency Bloomberg, the peculiarity of the rules of the Tokyo commercial exchange platform saved the company from a decline in the value of shares by more than 18 percent, which would in fact turn out to be a real failure.

The fact is that this "little misunderstanding" made Nintendo more attractive to Sony, as investors initially mistakenly thought that the Pokémon Go was entirely a development of Nintendo, and accordingly began pouring in new investments at the speed of the machine-gun queue. In fact, in a statement that Nintendo did on Friday, there was no new information. In the game itself Pokémon Go and there are no hints that Nintendo is a developer. In addition, the owners and developers of the game were known even in advance, at the time of its announcement last year.

Whatever it was, the popularity of the game itself does not affect it. Last weekend, the official release of Pokémon Go took place in Japan. As expected, there it too became a real phenomenon. According to statistics, just a few hours after the release, 10 million people downloaded it.
