In 2007, when the first game of the Uncharted series went on sale, no one could have imagined that it would mark the beginning of one of the most popular franchises in the gaming industry, set a new standard of quality in its genre and become one of the "systems" of the PlayStation consoles. For ten long years, Nathan Drake delighted gamers around the world with his adventures, treasure hunting and sparkling humor. But any adventurer sooner or later retires. This is what happened in the game Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. However, the developers decided not to put a cross on the series and announced a new game Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (Uncharted: The Lost Legacy), the action of which unfolds in the same universe, but the protagonists are completely different characters. Did the studio Naughty Dog once again please its fans? Let's find out together.
Game: Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
Platform: PlayStation 4
Genre: Action-Adventure, Third Person Shooter
Release date: August 23, 2017
Developer: Naughty Dog
Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
In the history of Nathan Drake and his family, the point was set in the previous game, so the developers from Naughty Dog had a natural question: who to make the main characters of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy? Having gone through several options, they came to the only correct decision. Fans of the series at one time fell in love with the treasure hunter Chloe Fraser, who made her debut in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves in 2009. Between Chloe and Nathan was a short, but very stormy novel, which, however, was originally doomed. Nevertheless, Chloe was so fond of the players that her absence in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End aroused the indignation of the fan community. Despite the fact that Chloe was born and grew up in Australia, the appearance of a sultry brunette immediately shows that she has Indian roots, so the developers did not have to think much about the game's place too.
What kind of Uncharted is without a faithful partner and priceless ancient treasure? Chloe's partner in the new game was a well-known antagonist from the fourth part - Nadine Ross. The owner of the luxurious Afroschevelura and the former owner of the private military company "Beregovaya Liniya" joins Fraser to help her find the legendary artifact of the times of the Indian empire of Hoysala - the tusk of Ganesha. The search for this tusk for the main character is a very personal matter, directly related to her family. Of course, the treasure is hunted not only by brave ladies, but also by the extremely dangerous rebel leader named Asav, at whose disposal is the army of mercenaries. The main action of the game Uncharted: The Lost Legacy unfolds in Western Ghats - a picturesque mountainous area in the west of Hindustan.
Relationships of girls in the course of their joint adventures are gradually developing. It's nice to watch how a genuine friendship of women grows out of mistrust and based on material benefits, capable of sweeping away all obstacles on the path of the treasure hunters. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy events occur some time after the end of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, so Chloe is not nearly as young as the second or third part of the series. She has become more sensible and experienced than is pleasantly different from frivolous Nathan Drake, ready to rush headlong into any dangerous adventure. Despite this, Chloe is not alien to the sense of humor. But her jokes are more thoughtful and versatile than the previous protagonist of the series.
Uncharted: The Lost Legacy took over almost all the main mechanics of the previous game. But the developers still made some innovations in the gameplay. For example, the artificial intelligence of the partner of the main character began to resemble what we saw in The Last of Us. Nadine Ross really behaves like a real, living person. She not only skillfully shoots and attacks opponents in the rear, but also knows how to activate various mechanisms, helps overcome obstacles, drives the SUV and even helps Chloe solve some puzzles. Sometimes it is very convenient for Nadine to navigate in the heat of battle, as she tells the war girlfriend where it is best to hide from enemy bullets or in what direction to move at the moment.
Another innovation in the gameplay was the ability of characters to cling to and move over each other when they hang on vertical surfaces, catching on the ledges. For example, your partner is hanging in your way, and you need to move on. Chloe gently grab Nadine's shoulders, move her foot to the ledge behind her and only after that let her partner go. Realized all the most realistic. Some of the players will not even pay attention to such a trifle, and programmers and animators Naughty Dog probably spent more than one hundred man-hours on the implementation of this interaction. In the game, you can now open the locks with a simple mini-game where you have to react to the controller's vibration to find the right position of the master key in the keyhole. Opens can be enemy chests with weapons and treasures, locks of doors and even handcuffs.
In the first half of the game, the developers made a strong emphasis on stealth mechanics. The player has to hide from the opponents behind the shelters, sneak behind their backs or hang right under their noses, holding on to the cornice. Stealth in the game has become more thoughtful and is no longer felt by the rudimentary addition of a third-person shooter. But the most important surprise was the giant open location, which becomes available to the player around the middle of the game. We already saw something like this in Uncharted 4: A Thief's End: there the main characters traveled through the open spaces of Madagascar on an off-road car and explored various places. In Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, developers went even further. In addition to the key points that need to be visited for further development of the plot, the location contains many optional small quests for which the player will receive a particularly useful artifact and learn a lot about the Hoysal Empire. This innovation, I think is almost the most important in the history of the series. Personally, I always missed something like that in Uncharted.
You can not ignore the pretty mature puzzles. The main characters will constantly face riddles, the decision of which will make you pretty shatter your head. Do not worry. In the game there are no unsolvable problems, and if you are a smart person, then, no doubt, quickly enough to cope with any of the puzzles. But in one thing I'm 100% sure: the Uncharted: The Lost Legacy puzzle is one, or even two, heads above what we saw in the previous games of the series. In terms of collection items, the game confidently holds the set bar. You will be offered to find 68 treasures, find 21 boxes with rare weapons, listen to 17 optional dialogues with secondary characters and much, much more. Another novelty of the game was Chloe Fraser's passion for photography. She does not part with her smartphone and takes pictures of especially picturesque places of Hindustan. The player is to find 28 such locations.
Visually, the game looks just great! I already said that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End is one of the most beautiful games ever released for the PlayStation 4. Well, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy skipped its predecessor. It is difficult to describe in words my emotions when I first saw incredibly beautiful landscapes, silent ancient cities, giant statues of gods and architectural monuments of the distant past that have survived to this day. Having passed the game to the end, you feel like you just returned from India and still did not come to your senses after the change of time zones. The beauty of the new Uncharted is stupefying and amazing. The love of developers for working out the smallest details still causes sincere admiration. Every leaf, every blade of grass, every butterfly fluttering over bright colors, is painted with special love. Once again, I was amazed that after the hand-to-hand fight, the skin of the main heroine becomes scarred and then, and if she climbs out of the water, her hair sticks to her face. Everything is so wonderful that it is difficult for me to find the right words to express my thoughts.
The musical accompaniment of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is also on top. You will hear the motives familiar from previous games, but in a new treatment. In the game there is a pronounced influence of Indian music, and as the final track during the credits, the composition "Borders" of the Indian singer MIA is worth noting. It is worth noting the outstanding game of actors. Especially impressive is the work of Claudia Lee Black, who voiced Chloe. In her skill, she is not inferior to the recognized voice-over artists of video games Troy Baker and Nolan North, and in some ways even surpasses them. The new Uncharted is best used in quality headphones to enjoy all the subtleties of the background sound created by Naughty Dog. The game, by the way, offers a finely tuned sound, including adjusting the dynamic coverage and even azimuths of stereo headphones.
Initially, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy was conceived only as a plot DLC to Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. So the developers wanted to extend the stay of the fans of the series a little in the beloved universe. But in the development process it turned out that the DLC had grown to a full-scale game, and it was no longer a matter of calling it simply a "complement". As a result, The Lost Legacy was decided to release as a stand-alone product. Many players worried about the duration of the game. I hasten to reassure you! At the lowest complexity and without being distracted by the exploration of the world around me, I ran the game in non-stop mode for 6 hours and 20 minutes. If you study open location, perform side quests, search for scattered artifacts, you can spend on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy hours 10. For comparison: the first game of the series was held for 8 hours, the second - for 10, and the third - for 9. So with the duration here full order. Although after the final credits, I still want to continue the wonderful story.
The only drawback of the game, in my opinion, was a crooked translation into Russian. However, I did not like the translation, and in the case of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. Immediately make a reservation: I was playing with the original English voice acting and Russian subtitles. This allows you to hear the voices of the original actors and simultaneously assess the quality of the work of Russian translators. In some places, the dialogues have been translated more or less sane, but sometimes Russian "superiors" begin to carry such a gag, for which they should be ashamed. Instead, it's embarrassing to read all this for some reason to me. Due to incorrect translation, the mood of some scenes completely changes. Often the meaning of jokes is lost, which could be translated into Russian much closer to the original, rather than stuck in the phrase like "put my feet in my mouth". And now I'm grumbling not from scratch. At one time I happened to localize the games in Russian, so I understand how it all works.
Multiplayer new game I paint in detail will not, because he mostly moved here from Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. "Competition mode", includes 14 cards, 6 types of games, single tests and hundreds of unlockable items. "Cooperative mode of survival" involves the cooperation of three players who are opposed to the waves of advancing opponents and powerful bosses. However, you can try to survive in this mode, even in proud solitude. The new mode of multiplayer was "Arena". Approximately the same as the previous mode, only in the scenery of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Players can customize the appearance of their characters and even get used to the image of the new charismatic villain Asav. And the game offers us a high-quality photo mode, thanks to which any player can briefly become a professional photographer, choose a beautiful filter, customize the facial expressions of the characters of the game and send the resulting snapshot to social networks.

Minuses:

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is the quintessence of everything for which we have been loving the series for ten years now. The game is full of references to the previous parts, which only real fans can appreciate. Despite the fact that the game was conceived only as a plot addition to Uncharted 4, the developers managed to bring in the gameplay a lot of pleasant innovations. The study of a huge open location and the execution of mini-quests led me to rapture. What can I say about the prettier puzzles, excellent sound and outstanding work of Naughty Dog artists. But the most striking impression on me still produced two main characters - Chloe and Nadine. I do not want to make a guess, but I really would like to see the new adventures of this wonderful couple in the future. I put the game 10 points out of 10 and remind that Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will go on sale on Wednesday, August 23, 2017.
